the 'bands that allow taping' site:

http://btat.wagnerone.com/index.php

which is a pretty good authority of who is and who is not taper friendly, does not have a listing for "The Band" meaning if their official site doesn't have a pro-taping policy, then it is safe to say they are not pro-taping.

In all fairness, "The Band" hasn't been together for a long time which could very well explain their abscence from btat. However, when they were together, they were very taper friendly according to a source who has taped them before. My guess is that it may be worth a shot to email someone still associated with them.

I was being serious. I'm suprised that http://btat.wagnerone.com/index.php wouldn't list a band that has hundreds of known recordings. And/Or that there would be a question about if they allow taping. From what i can see from the site, taping was allowed and done in large quantities.

With some of the major bands, there will be tons of bootleg tapes in circulation even though the band may not be taping/trading friendly. So, many tapes = friendly is not a good rule of thumb to use. There are *many* Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones tapes in circ for example, but I've never personally heard of either one having a pro-taping/trading stance.

FWIW That .no site appears to be a fan/collector effort anyway, not an offically sanctioned site.

Very true, I just assumed being that there are numerous SBD patches that it had to be allowed (to some extent). Yet, you make a good argument.

Ok:

The Band Tape Archive

The lists of tapes with performances by the Band and Band members are contributed by collectors. We hope that the archive will serve as a useful source of information about one of the greatest rock'n'roll ensembles in music history.

***Please note that I cannot assist you in getting any of these tapes.***
